Capture Your Coonie’s Personality with These Photography Tips!

We all know how gorgeous our Coonies, and if you’re like me, your phone is full of pictures of them!

We have some truly stunning shots shared in our albums. Getting that purrfect shot can sometimes feel like a challenge.

For those who don’t find photography to be second-nature, here are a few tips:

Do's:

  • Use Natural Light: The best photos happen with soft, natural lighting. Early morning or late afternoon provides the most flattering light. Avoid harsh, direct sunlight, which can cause shadows and make your kitty squint.
  • Get Down to Their Level: For a more engaging shot, crouch down to your cat’s eye level. This perspective creates a sense of connection and really brings out their character.
  • Patience Is Key: Let your cat move around and be themselves! Candid shots often end up being the most special. Try using a favorite toy or treat to grab their attention.
  • Focus on Their Eyes: The eyes are the most expressive part of your cat's face, so make sure they're in sharp focus. If your camera has an autofocus feature, use it to lock onto their eyes.
  • Make a Funny Noise: A short interesting noise, whether it’s a whistle, or any popping, squirting or other unusual sound usually causes a cat to look toward it’s source (you) curiously.

Don’ts:

  • Avoid Using Flash: Flash can startle your cat, cause red-eye, and distort their natural beauty. Stick to natural lighting to bring out their true colors.
  • Don't talk to them using their name: A Maine Coon will usually interpret this as an interaction with you, and walk toward you - leaving the picture-perfect pose behind.
  • Don't Force It: Cats have their own moods, and sometimes they just aren't in the mood to pose. If your cat isn't cooperating, take a break and try again later.

Finally, consider the background. A clean, simple background allows your cat to be the star of the shot.

With a little patience and the right setup, you can capture your cat's unique personality while making the process fun for both of you! Happy snapping!

  • The internet has spawned many popular cat memes, including "Grumpy Cat," "Keyboard Cat," and "Lil Bub." These memes have gained widespread popularity and have even been used in advertising campaigns.
  • In 2016, researchers at the University of California, Berkeley, created a neural network that could identify and classify images of cats with 81.7% accuracy, demonstrating the impact that cat pictures have had on the development of artificial intelligence.
  • According to a study by Friskies, a cat food brand, cats are the most popular pet on the internet, with 15% of all internet traffic related to cats.
  • The hashtag #catsofinstagram has over 280 million posts, making it one of the most popular hashtags on the platform. Many cats have even become social media influencers, with millions of followers and sponsorships from brands.
  • The internet has also led to the rise of cat cafes, where people can enjoy coffee or tea in the company of cats. These cafes have become popular in many cities around the world and are often visited by tourists looking for a unique experience.
